July 25, 2009 Dear Friends, We sent $640 to the Victorious Faith Refuge Home last Wednesday. $240 of that was from support provided by monthly sponsors of the children. The rest came from special gifts and church funds. I spoke with Pastor Andrew by phone. I asked how things went with the government accreditation of the Home. He told me the repairs that were required were completed. The government workers doing the assessment completed their work and are filing their reports. The result will not be known for awhile but the woman in charge said it looked good. Part of the assessment process required Pastor Andrew to have some medical tests run on all the children. He told me they received several complements on the healthy condition of the children; noting that it is common for Liberian orphanages to have many sickly children – some even dying. All of the refuge children are healthy and well. The only looming health concern is malaria. Most Liberians, including Pastor Andrew, are afflicted with it. In order to make needed repairs in the time frame required by the government, Pastor Andrew had to borrow money. I asked him about the loan and he told me that he was able to borrow it interest free. I was amazed and asked him to email me the name of the person who loaned him the funds so that I could pray for God’s blessing in that person’s life. (I asked him to email it, because I was having a hard time understanding him.) When his email arrived, I was surprised to learn of the source. Read his message… Dear Rev. Pevlor, Blessings in Jesus name. The last few words in our phone conversation a few minutes ago was not gotten clearly, but what I did get though was, that you needed the name of the woman who loaned me the $1,855.00 for the renovation work, that is in fact why I decided to leave my house and e-mail this testimony to you. Rev. Bill Pevlor this came to me also as a surprise. Can you imagine that the person who when my wife related the pressing issue to and added that we were almost loosing the work we have labored and paid prices for which is the Refuge home, was my own mother-in-law. She is the treasurer of a community loan club that gives out every bit of what they have on interest. I must confess that I was ashamed to confront her. But my wife noticed for the first time that I was getting discouraged and worked up, not eating my meals as I use to, so she decided to blow the horn herself. My mother-in-law in turn met with her Bosses and discussed the issue that they should loan me this amount which will be paid latest on the 29th of July 2009. That was a very risky venture that she undertook because according to them such an amount is not credited to somebody that is not part of the Loan club. Another amazing information is, that meeting ended with a decision of loaning me the said amount without interest. My wife came back that evening and pretended that she had gone out for follow up to a church sister. The whole issue was like a drama. She asked of me and they told her I have not come out of the house since morning, so she entered the room and saw me reading, she spoke to me and left the room. Late at night after our night devotion, she called me and said that she had a good news for me, she broke the news, and that was how we were able to do the work. Though the money was not given for free and that the time to pay back was short, I thanked God that He made it possible for me to maintain the vision of helping the needy, especially Orphans. My mother-in-law's name is Miatta Turay, she is a Muslim and lives in a community known as Clara town where we had the church at first. I was glad when I heard you say you want to pray for her because that is what I have also being doing. Thank you very much for the concern. Pastor Andrew
Borrowing money was a last
resort. Pastor Andrew was
compelled to borrow the
funds for the renovation
because of requirements
imposed by the government as
part of their
inspection/assessment
process for accredidation.
If the requrements weren’t
met by the time set by the
government workers (July
15th), they would take the
children from the Victorious
Faith Refuge Home and
dispursed them to other
orphanages throughout
Liberia. We must also pray that God provides a way for Pastor Andrew to pay back the borrowed money by July 29th. What we were able to send him this week will barely make a dent. Remember, he also has to feed and care for thirty children and their caregivers. Add to that, school will start in about a month. They will need school supplies, uniforms, footware (these kids always need footware J), etc. etc. The needs are great. Our God is greater! |
