The Latest News from Victorious Faith Refuge Home and Esther's Hope

June 27, 2009

Dear Friends,

I spoke with Pastor Andrew the other day.  Our phone connection was very poor so I asked him to send me an email.  He did and it is included below.

I did make it a point to ask him about flooding there.  I had read reports of flooding problems in several parts of Monrovia, including the Gardnersville area where the Refuge Home is located.  I was able to understand enough to be assured that they are not having any flooding problems…yet.  They are in their rainy season.

One of the big stories today from Liberia – Liberians Mourning the Loss of Michael Jackson.  The story talked about how much Liberians loved Michael Jackson…that his songs are sung at every school’s musical events…etc.

I stumbled upon a nice slide-show of photos from Liberia by someone named Jason Judy.  These are recent photos.  Things look much like they were when we last were there. To see them, click on this link:

 http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonjudy/sets/72157620455183871/show/

When you click the link, your web browser should open to the slide-show.  To pause the slides, press your space bar – and then again to continue.

Remember to continue to share the story of Esther’s Hope and this website with others.

Blessings,

Pastor Bill

Here’s Pastor Andrews email…

Dear Rev. Pevlor,

Please accept our thanks and appreciation and exchange same to all those
who are contributing to the survival of the Victorious Refuge home Kids
and the work here in Liberia.

It has been a serious problem trying to get this site opened but thank God
it was possible today.

Here is an update on how the funds sent last week was spent by the grace
of God.

Total amount received:$1,840.00

Purpose:
1.20 acres of land Survey ($1,600.00)
2.Refuge home monthly support ($240.00)

Details:

This time, I decided due to the health treat of the children to take all
of the children to a near by clinic for a thorough laboratory test as was
advised by the health practitioner from the MOH/SW.

To do urinary test, blood test, and malaria test cost $10.00 USD per
child. So I negotiated with clinic administrator and told him the status
of these children. They gave me a discount on each child. Instead of me
paying $10.00 USD per child, I was asked to pay $6.00 USD per child.
$6*30= $180.00

I went through all this because it should form part of the receipts and
report I had to submit to the lady that is conducting assessment at the
VFRH for onward accreditation.

Balance: $60.00

I bought a bag of rice; $35.00
I gave the $25.00 o the Matron to manage for the mean time.

Survey report:

Looking at the close nature of the time frame I need to compile and
complete issues in the home as per assessment, I was almost tempted to
switch the survey funds into starting the renovation work this week. But
something came to mind that funds that are allocated for specific projects
must be expended for such projects because that's why the funds were
raised and sent.

Detail:
$1,500.00-(for the survey itself that lasted for two days)
$100.00 – (was used for transporting the surveyors and few of us including
feeding for the two days)

That is what I was explaining to you the day you called but the phone line
was bad.

My prayer is for the Lord to provide for you and all those who have
availed themselves to be used of God to support this renovation process
because the Lady from Health Ministry will be coming over next week to see
how far I've gone with renovation work especially on the fence, roof, and
the ceiling.

I really wanted to start off the work with the money for the survey but I
needed your approval since I could not get clear to you on phone and poor
internet connections for the past days due to the lightening and heavy
storm, I decided to use the funds for what it was meant for.

The good news is that all of the children from the VFRH were successful in
the final exams and were promoted to new grades. And 4 of them will be
graduating out of the Kindergarten class on Sunday. The graduation
ceremony is what they are after me for since they will be graduating
amongst other community Kids in the school. Those that will be graduating
will need a new dress, and a pair of shoe.

The graduate from the home will include:

Isaac Donyen: The boy who’s father is crazy and mother dead.

Johnson Kezeley: Less fortunate with parents in critical state.

Alex Tieh: Orphan

Nancy Blamo: Orphan

Please Sir Keep holding us in your prayers as you have always done for
nothing is impossible for our God.

My regards to your family and the church membership.

Pastor Andrew
